Heidi hated the outdoors. She didn’t go outdoors, and wouldn’t be caught dead doing anything outdoorsy. Which is an odd thing to say, considering she is part vampire, and all of her vampire relatives spent a good deal of time outside hunting. But Heidi didn’t think they liked the outdoors per say, they just had to do what they had to do to stop the thirst. Heidi’s family was good vampires, and feed only on the blood of animals to survive. But Heidi had no reason to go outside, for she ate regular, human food. She was thankful she could get that trait from the little human part she had in her, but than again, shapeshifters ate normal food too.
So why would Heidi be out here? Easy. She liked danger. The other day when she had been driving to LaPush to see some of her pack friends she saw people JUMP off the side of the cliff. She asked her friends what they were doing, and they had informed her of the recreational purpose of ‘cliff diving’. Immediately, Heidi wanted to try. Of course she hadn’t told anyone of this secret desire. Who could she tell? Almost everyone she knew saw her as a fragile child, and always tried to keep her away from anything with the slightest potential of getting her hurt. Which again, made the thrill that much better.
She perched her self on the very edge of the cliff and looked down. It was a long way down. Much farther than she had imagined. She would have to think this through. She had no intentions of jumping today, she was just ‘scoping out’ the landscape. Well really, she was trying to convince herself to do it, and now as she looked down at the icy blue water, she realized she could not do this alone. She had to get someone to do it with her… but who? Who was reckless enough to cliff dive, and let Heidi do it too? Before Heidi could consider it she heard soft footsteps behind her, and spun around immediately, ready to defend herself for being here.

Aaron really hadn't gone outside in quite a while. In fact the only time he went outside was when he had to go to a pack meeting down at the beach or it was his night to patrol the forest. It had been a year and a half ago when Aaron had found out about his girlfriend cheating on him and ever since then he had never been quite the same. Now normally he would have been all happy and cheerful and finding any way to go outside. But after finding out Bree had cheated on him Aaron had become quite depressed and tried to find any excuse to keep himself indoors. Even his younger twin brother tried to pull him outside but failed.
So what was he doing outside today. Well his father and mother had been busy today and Aaron being the eldest sibling out of the Aquene family his parents left him in charge. That meant he had to head down to the store and buy the food they would be needing at home. Being a family full of shapeshifters they needed a lot of food back at home and they were running low. So Aaron had decided to head out to the store and buy some. Driving back home he drove on the dirt roads back to wards the reservation that's when he stopped at the beach to take a look at the cliffs to see if anyone would be diving today.
It wasn't really the type of day for diving today and Aaron hadn't gone diving himself in quite some time due to the fact of Bree cheating on him, He glanced up to the cliffs and noticed a familiar face up there. It was Heidi Black his best friend since childhood. Aaron took another glance around to see if her father was around but not seeing him Aaron frowned slightly. He then made his way up the cliffs and stopped right behind her as she spun around. "Whoa there Heidi relax it's just me" he reassured her softly. Aaron was trying his best to hide his depression knowing if Heidi knew he was depressed she would just bug him about telling her what was wrong and right now he just didn't want to talk about Bree.

Heidi had her jaw slight tightened as she prepared herself for anything. When you were part werewolf and part vampire, you learned to do that. "Whoa there Heidi relax it's just me" a familiar voice said. Heidi’s tension evaporated instantly, and a huge grin wiped away any traces of it. It was Aaron! Aaron Aquene and Heidi Black had been best friends when they were little, but things had since changed.
Aaron started dating some girl named Bree. It wasn’t that Heidi didn’t like her, but she wasn’t really all that interesting to her. Besides, she didn’t think she was even remotely close to right for Aaron. Heidi wasn’t really sure who was, but it wasn’t her. She had heard the rumors though. She cheated on him, and it all but killed him. Now he kept himself shut up in his house, barely ever coming out except for pack things. He was very depressed. But the thing was, it was over a year ago. A YEAR, and he still wasn’t over it. Something was seriously wrong with that.
“Hey Aaron,” Heidi said smoothly. Acting as if she saw him every day, and not like she hadn’t seen him in months, which was the truth. Aaron had hurt Heidi. He had all but ditched her when he started dating Bree. Heidi had depended on him in many ways. He was her best friend. Not so much anymore. She turned away from him and looked down at the clear water once again, letting the wind whip her hair everywhere, “What’s up?”

Aaron had a feeling that something wrong. It wasn't his depression either. He had a slight feeling that Heidi was mad at him and he couldn't blame her. If he was her right now he would have been angry at himself as well. The way he ditched her for Bree was so not cool. But he was in love with her you couldn't blame him. Aaron just sighed and looked down. he hated it when his friends were mad or angry at him but when he had a feeling that his best friend was mad or angry at him that just made the matter so much worse.
When he heard her say hi he slowly looked back up to her with a slightly confused look on his face. "Why is she being so nice to me she should be yelling and screaming at me by now" he thought silently to himself. Maybe she wasn't as angry as he thought but that thought was just pushed away. Of course she was angry with him who wouldn't be almost the entire pack was angry at himself for keeping himself locked up in the house for as long as he had.
Aaron then slowly nodded his head in a greeting. He really wasn't in the mood to talk right now due to how depressed he was though he wanted to know why she was being so nice to him right now. "Heidi why are you being so nice to me" he asked her softly still trying his hardest in hiding his depression in the sound of his voice. "I mean I just plain ditched you and your being nice to be that doesn't make sense" he spoke again as he shook his head and stepped to wards her and looked down to the water below.

"Heidi why are you being so nice to me" Aaron asked her in a tone that could only be said as dreading, "I mean I just plain ditched you and your being nice to be that doesn't make sense" When he put it that way, it really did sound like she had every reason in the world to be upset with him. But she wasn’t. She knew that now. Jealousy was her only problem. It wasn’t that she liked Aaron in any way more than a friend, and wasn’t really jealous of the relationship they had had together. It was the pure fact that he would rather spend time with Bree than Heidi that she couldn’t understand. They were such good friends, how could he just decide he liked her company better? It had hurt.
But Heidi’s hurt wasn’t really what was important now. She had gotten over it, made new friends. Not that she didn’t miss hanging out with Aaron, but she had moved on. Aaron was not moving on from Bree. You could see it in his eyes. He still thought about her, way more often then he should. She cheated on him, obviously she didn’t care about him as much as he had thought. Yeah, it should hurt, but he was beyond hurting. He was agonizing.
“It makes perfect sense.” Heidi said, with much confidence in her voice. Her friend needed her. Even if he had been her friend in quite a while, he was still significant enough to care about, “You need me.” She said it simple. It was just the truth. He couldn’t hide out in his house anymore, “You need me to help you move on.” She knew he wouldn’t want to talk about it, she wouldn’t either. But he had to do something to get his life back, and admitting he needed his life back was the very first step.

Aaron continued to look down to the water as he listened to every word his best friend had been speaking. He knew she was right. It was time for him to get over Bree even if he didn't want to. She was the one that had cheated on him and even if he was still feeling depressed over her and wanted her back in his life he knew he had to move on. If he didn't he would be depressed forever and Aaron didn't want that. Slowly he looked up to his best friend as he bite down his lower lip and nodded his head at her agreeing with her.
Aaron was sure with Heidi's help he would soon be able to get over Bree. As long as he didn't see her again he would be fine. He would be able to get over her and move on. But deep down that was the last thing he wanted to do. He didn't want to move on and get over Bree. In fact to be quite honest after high school he was planning on asking her to marry him. Of course those plans got messed up. Aaron still had the ring for Bree back at home. It sat on his dresser in the little black and red velvet box.
Just thinking back to it made him even more depressed compared to when he first arrived. Sighing softly he glanced back out to the water. "But we'll worry about that later I made a promise to you all those years ago and today I'm going to teach you how to cliff dive" he told her with a small smile. It wasn't his full happy smile like he use to have before Bree cheated on him but at least it was a smile.

Aaron just nodded along with her. Heidi wasn’t sure if he was really agreeing, or just trying to get her off her case. Shaking her head she looked down at the water. She couldn’t help him if he didn’t want to be helped. If he just wanted to sit here and sulk about her that was fine with Heidi. She had been fine before he came here today, and she would be fine when she left. She wasn’t the one with the problem. She knew it was cruel to think this way, but it was a cruel world.
"But we'll worry about that later I made a promise to you all those years ago and today I'm going to teach you how to cliff dive" Just as Heidi expected, Aaron changed the subject. He had always been like that, afraid of conflict; talking about emotions. He was a softy sometimes, but sometimes he just wouldn’t open up.
But Heidi let it go, mostly be she was excited by what he said. It was like an angel sent from god. She wanted a cliff diving partner, and bam, there was her long lost best friend ready to teach her. She tried to not sound as eager as she really was, but it cracked through anyway as she said “Ok!” She had to laugh at herself then. It was like old times. Just her and Aaron.

Aaron knew Heidi was expecting him to change the subject but he couldn't help it. He was never good with emotions or opening up to people. The only person he truly trusted was his younger twin brother. Since they were twins they connected perfectly together and his twin brother would be able to tell when Aaron wanted to open up or not. It was like they had the ability to read each other's minds or something. When he noticed her shake her head he sighed softly and looked back up to her. "Heidi I'm sorry I'm just not ready to talk about it yet you understand that don't you" he asked her softly.
Aaron didn't want her starting to feel like he was trying to push her away. That was the last thing he was trying to do. He really wanted her help he just wasn't ready to talk about it yet to anyone but his twin brother. He could tell she was excited by his suggestion. Who wouldn't be excited about cliff diving. It was one of the main ways Aaron got rid of all the stress that was bothering him. Though even cliff diving wasn't working to get rid of his depression this time. That was just a horrible thought.
A weak smile played gently on his lips as he looked up to her. "You did bring your bathing suit right" he asked her softly. Cliff diving for the first time was like the best. Aaron was able to remember the very first time his father brought him and his twin brother up here to dive off for the first time.

"Heidi I'm sorry I'm just not ready to talk about it yet you understand that don't you" Aaron asked. Its been months, but he could still see right through her. This made her slightly uneasy. She just pretended like she hadn’t heard him. If he was going to avoid the problem, she would too.
He gave her a half hearted smile that could break the heart of a serial killer before saying "You did bring your bathing suit right?” This would be no fun if he was being a downer. She frowned at herself. If SHE would stop being a downer, maybe he would too. So Heidi unleashed her ridiculously perky self.
“Duh! Of course!” She said, and started pulling down her short jean shorts. She could just imagine how this could look from the passing cars, but Heidi could care less. After her jeans had hit the dirt she yanked off her tank top to reveal a very skimpy bikini. It wasn’t of her choice really. Alice had picked it out for her a couple of months ago, she was happy to finally have a reason to wear it. Then she looked at him, he had just showed up here, what would be the odds that he would have a swimming suit. “You don’t.” She accused.

Aaron knew he had to stop being such a downer but to be quite honest he didn't know how. No one had ever broken his heart as much as Bree did in fact before Bree came along Aaron had never been in a relationship before her. So yes Bree was his first ever girlfriend that was why it had hurt so much. No one knew that though everyone thought he had been at least three relationships everyone except Heidi believed that. Aaron watched her take off her clothes and smiled softly at the simple bikini. "You know it's quite beautiful on you Heidi your quite beautiful to any guy would be very lucky to date someone like yourself" he spoke to her truthfully.
He then chuckled softly at her question as he smiled again this time his smile being an actual real smile. Aaron didn't understand why it was real now maybe Heidi was the only one who could get that out of him right now. "Wrong being as sad as I was it made me to lazy to grab some actual clothing so I just put on my swim trunks for shorts" he spoke before he yanked off his t-shirt and tossed it down to the ground and just stood there in his swim trunks that Heidi had bought for him one day while she was out shopping with Alice.
Aaron just smiled again as he held his hand out to her. "I'll make sure you'll be alright Heidi you can trust me" he reassured her softly. He knew how scary it was for anyone's first time at cliffdiving. Being so high up well sometimes it could send people the creeps. It sent Aaron the creeps the first time he had done it with his father and now well now he loved it.

Aaron looked at Heidi’s bikini, but it didn’t make her uncomfortable. Aaron wasn’t like other guys. He wasn’t attracted to Heidi in any way. That was probably why she enjoyed his company so much. He was a guy, and only a friend. She never had to worry about him liking her for anything more than that. "You know it's quite beautiful on you Heidi your quite beautiful to any guy would be very lucky to date someone like yourself" She smiled quickly. He had proven her point exactly.
“Well thanks, Aaron.” Heidi said with a bubbly grin, “I think any girl that gets to date you is TOO lucky, and surely not good enough for you.” She spoke truthfully. Aaron was like a brother to her, and ever since the Bree thing, she would never let another girl hurt him. Which most likely meant that she would never approve of anyone he ever dates.
A small chuckle came out of Aaron at her quick assumption, which made Heidi only smile bigger. Maybe he could get back to normal. He just needed a good dose of Heidi optimism. "Wrong being as sad as I was it made me to lazy to grab some actual clothing so I just put on my swim trunks for shorts" He explained. Heidi tried to laugh a little, but it came out a little off. She didn’t find it the least bit funny that Aaron was too depress to even get dressed into proper clothing. But it did help in this occasion.
Looking down at his trunks Heidi realized she had seen them before. “I got you those!” She said, pointing at his trunks. She could still remember that day clearly. It was a fun time so obviously it was preBree. Alice and Heidi had so much fun going overboard and buying Aaron way more than he needed. Money wasn’t really an issue for the Cullens. And Alice was one of the few of the family that approved of Heidi’s friendship with him. He WAS a shapeshifter after all. It was natural for them to dislike him.
Heidi was busy reminiscing when Aaron held out his hand for her to grab. Her face fell to a look of panic. “We’re going to do this now?” She demanded in a frightened voice, “We’re just going to… jump?” She made it sound like a very stupid thing to do, and it really WAS a stupid thing to do. But this had been what she wanted from the day right? The chance to jump. But now she was having second thoughts.
"I'll make sure you'll be alright Heidi you can trust me" Aaron reassured her in a comforting voice. Heidi took a deep breath and slid her small cold hand in his big warm one. She trusted Aaron. Much more than almost anyone else in her life. If there was anyone who could get her to jump, it was Aaron.
